Is it unethical thievery or everyone’s right to get things free by using whatever method that works?

It’s really enlightening to read the Yahoo questions submitted by members always asking how to get free ebooks, download free this, free that, free music, etc. without an apparent thought in the world that it’s outright thievery. They don’t seem to believe that they should have to pay for anything. Has the internet with its down-loadable freeware mind-conditioned the current generation that stealing is OK, or do they even consider it stealing?
I wonder if they’ve ever mentally put themselves in the shoes of someone who has spent months, if not years, inventing, composing, writing a book, etc. only to have the rewards of their intensive labor casually stolen from them?

Hey Pix – unfortunately the Internet has created a generation of kids who believe just that. They freely plagiarize papers and get homework answers. They go out of their way to steal music, photos, literature. There are even many kids out there skilled at identity theft who know how to buy things online with other people’s credit. It is very sad. We are creating a generation of children completely void of any form of respect or ethics. And I for one object.

I have stated repeatedly. To steal a book online is like stealing from an author’s home. A person’s book is their property, too. Intellectual property – covered by laws called copyright laws. Authors have the right to earn a living writing and I fully support that since I am an author. That’s why I state it over and over.

What kids don’t seem to realize is that they are putting their parents in danger of being fined or charged by stealing online if the internet service is in their name. Ask anyone who got fined when their kids stole from Napster. Why risk your parents reputation and credit to steal a book you can check out of any library legally? Or buy in paperback used for a few bucks? It makes no sense to me. Pax – C

How’s that book selling? What’s the title again?????
