What to Look for In an eBook Reader
There are a wide variety of ebook readers coming out in 2010. Since the Kindle and the Nook have become popular, there are many more ebook readers available to readers. What kinds of features should you look for when purchasing this type of device?
The first to be concerned with is battery life. You need a device that will stay on at least all day so that you can take it with you and have your books to read. If you recharge the device each night, something with an eight hour batter will be fine.
Screen size and the size of the unit need to be considered. If it’s too small, you might not like how it feels on your eyes. If it’s too big you might not take the device with you. Find a happy medium that won’t strain your eyes and is still portable.
Another choice to be made is an LCD or an electronic ink screen. Electronic ink looks like paper which is much easier on the eyes for most. LCD has some more functionality like a color screen. Do your research or maybe try one out before you buy. You should find what you like the best before you buy a device that you will be spending a lot of time with.
One huge consideration is formats. Some companies will have exclusive contracts with certain devices. You also want to have a device that reads open formats like text files and PDF documents. This is important since hundreds of books are already in these formats.
The speed of the device for some is important. There are some ebook readers that faster reader have a hard time with because the pages take too long to change. Look at the device in your hands to make sure the speed of the device is fast enough for your reading speed.
Other options besides ebook readers include smart phones. There are many Kindle users who are reading on the iPhone without issues. Some hate reading on such small devices, but it is a consideration if you already own a phone with this technology built in.
Ebook readers are the way of the future. They combine a popular and relaxing pastime with modern technology and everyone wins. You now have a book that is more portable than ever before and you don’t have to worry about running out of something to read while you are on vacation.
