kobo ebook drm
What is a good ebook reader software for a student?

I’m starting to be interested in ebooks due to their low price and simplicity. However, as a student, the lack of physical pages can cause problems when it comes to referencing and note-taking. Is there a (preferably but not necessarily free) ebook reading software (again, preferably but not necessarily for Mac or iPhone) that has features such as word/paragraph counts and the ability to create bookmarks and annotations.

I’m looking for software that could work in particular with the ePub format with the Adobe DRM (the format and DRM – correct me if I’m wrong – I think is being used by Kobo [formerly Shortcovers] at kobobooks.com), although I would be interested to read your recommendations even if it can’t.
